Adoption Process
-
The Center of Adoptions in Kiev is responsible for the entire adoption process in
Ukraine. It maintains a database of a children available for adoption, and makes referrals.
-
The parents travel to Kiev and meet with officials of the Center of Adoptions to review pictures, get medical and
personal information about the child, and determine which orphanage to visit.
-
Once the parents accept a referral, a court date (adoption hearing) is set so
that the adoption can be finalized. The birth certificate and passport are
issued after hearing.
-
The family, with the child, then travels to the US Embassy in Warsaw, Poland,
for a final approval and a visa for their child/ren to enter the United States.

Who can adopt
Married couples may adopt from the
Ukraine. Currently there are no specific age limitations. However, older
parents may adopt older children, on a case by case basis.
Children
There is a large number of children presently available. These children are from 14 months
of age. Because of the large number of children available, the child referral times are typically
much shorter than in other international programs.
